SERENITY SWANSON know it all Sorina glanced at her companion still not quite believing what she had been told a few minutes ago, ”We are actually going to talk with the kid who started all this, just talk? Not kick his ass?” Sometimes the seer made sense to her and other times, like tonight, she was very far off the reservation. If the night was simply about those ghosts that Vivian was responsible for it would have been a much smaller headache.
Serenity nodded as she walked down a familiar pathway into one of the many graveyards in Jump City. This particular graveyard was much younger then some of the others, most newly dead were brought here if they were buried. Many people these days just scattered the ashes of their loved ones. It did save space in the long run.
The dove sighed as she flew beside her friend, ”I’d say next time bring backup but you won’t. Will you?” She was constantly worried that a dove wasn’t enough protection for the headstrong blonde. Just being able to cause minor damage didn’t seem like enough at times like this.
Leaves crunched under her feet. She could see the young man she had come here to talk to standing at his parent’s graves parents he was very certain that he knew. ”You are all the backup I need with this one. If I signal you fly through the base of his skull.” She leaned back against a tombstone of someone she had already helped pass on giving Mr. Alkalines a glance before she spoke. ”Quite the trouble you managed to cause Thomas.” She was sure he would at least have some idea who she was. He was not quite prepared as the seer herself but he had done his research.

The silent, still air of the graveyard was broken by the Serenity's verbal knife. With it, nothing else seemed to move as the only other person on that plane of existence thought of a response.
"The uncalculated variable appears at last. People generally see what they look for, and hear what they listen for. The wise words of a Finch." Thomas stood motionless over the gravestones of his parents with his broad brim hat hiding his eyes, and looked slowly over his shoulder to the intruder. His eyes narrowed as he scrutinized the person who ruined his plan. He saw the girl who the cameras observed, who wasn't a hero, and he smiled a little.
Unique powers have unique trace characteristics. The traces of this power led him from one thing to another. Thomas hadn't been connected to any network, and he wasn't emitting a characteristic electromagnetic field. She hadn't met him before, that was for sure, and she couldn't be a psychic who could pinpoint one person since she shouldn't know who she was looking for. That meant, he knew now, that this woman had precognition because she had known exactly where he was going to be, and she probably knew what she was going to say. He was sure she knew he was going to say, "Aren't you dead?" before he spoke.
As he turned completely around, he dropped a rose on each grave, and he smiled a sad smile. "So you're here to make a deal or make me turn myself in. You should know I want to do that after I get the truth." With a sigh, he took a few steps towards her and turned out his pockets to show he had no tricks up his sleeves, but she knew that already. In a softer, sadder tone, he took his hat off and bowed slightly as he spoke, "Do you know what the truth is?"

SERENITY SWANSON know it all Serenity grinned broadly at the unasked question as she leaned back on the tombstone. The debate about weather or not she was actually dead was even now still debated in the media. Some sources claimed they'd found the body of the clairvoyant telekinetic martyr who had helped liberate them from their leader. Vandal Savage never did seem to win many congeniality contests. It was a wonder that he was allowed to roam the world without a Justice League tail at all times. It amazed her no one had thought to throw the monster into the sun yet.
Her eyes rolled at his quote, a how to kill a mocking bird quote. How insanely clever, during her time taking down Savage she had thought to have the entirety of the book quoted at her in conversations similar to this one. She herself could just retaliate and spill quotes from great inventors like Edison or Tesla, but to be honest she preferred coming up with her own remarks. "So I take it you want to listen to what I have to say in silence then? For you will receive what you see and hear in silence or you will leave." She was referencing the second half of that quote, she did have truth to say tonight. Not necessarily the truth he wanted to hear but Serenity was never much of a people pleaser.
She hopped up so she was now sitting on the grave across from the Titan's newest thorn in their side. She was very sure in a fist fight she actually had the advantage when it came to this scrawny hacker. She also had the advantage of knowing when he would strike first, so she wasn't exactly worried about her own safety tonight. Hence her rather flippant attitude about standing across from the Titan's most wanted. "I'm here to do neither. I'm here to discuss your future." She grinned at the Dove who was now hovering around the villain's head. She could sit and debate the definition of the truth until the sun rose and the tanks started roaming the streets. She was going to let him pretend he didn't ask such a ridiculous question to a clairvoyant. When Athena had asked a similar question she had laughed outright in her face simply because they had known each other for years and yet questions like how-did-you-know-that sometimes still managed to slip out.

"So," Blackhat paused a moment and tried to be as charming as possible since this was his last and only chance at social engineering the seer, "will this be a card reading, or something less cliche?" With a smirk, he walked back towards his parents' graves and sat down, his hat falling to the ground nearby. "You might as well sit down," He pointed to the ground in front of him and smiled sadly. The hacker looked over towards the graves and slowly formed painfully direct words that the seer couldn't have missed. He said, "I've pissed off everyone and they're going to kill me for it, aren't they?"
In the moment of silence before the answer came, Thomas felt the oncoming emotions welling up from inside of him. They were things he'd locked away on his pursuit of justice. Those emotions weren't angry ones - no, he needed those emotions to motivate him - it was guilt and sorrow. Guilt for doing violent things to others, guilt for not finding his parents' murderers before losing in the endgame, guilt for hurting Annette and the rainbow girl (he'd seen the cameras), and sorrow because he couldn't get justice, and he was hurt. He'd never really recovered from losing them, and he never had an emotional support system, so the tear falling from his cheek wasn't all that surprising.
"Their murderers won't be brought to justice, and I'll be the victim of another senseless killing by those vigilantes," He spat venomous words while tears started falling in succession. "I'm DIFFERENT from them, they're ABOVE the law. The Police kept the names secret, and Annette didn't tell me. She could've told me..." Thomas narrowed his eyes and looked up at Reni with a sad smile. A stupid thought crossed his mind, What if they sent this girl to kill me? What if the future she's discussing is my short life... a monster... "What are you waiting for? Do it."
He waited for the inevitable...

SERENITY SWANSON know it all Serenity rolled her eyes at at Thomas's attempt to be charming. Why people must always make a card reading joke was beyond her, the only thing more cliche was a crystal ball reading. To say the next few minutes wouldn't be cliche was lying but it seemed to make the dove laugh from where she was hovering. She jumped up so she was now sitting on the old tombstone not to far from where Thomas was sitting. "Don't mind if I do." Now was the time to listen to the melodrama. She didn't feel like interrupting him as she normally would have just made a joke about how he would just be more of a pain in the ass if she let the heroes kill him.
Sorina couldn't believe this idiot as he went on. Oh woe is me I'll be part of a senseless killing, by vigilanties never mind it half of them were so attached to justice they bled red white and blue. They had said that they've pissed off a bunch of super power teenagers, not the league of assassins. Wait this guy must not know who his parents actually were. She glanced over at Serenity and saw the blonde give a slight nod to her companion's question. It helped that the seer could see what question was going to be asked before it was. Then suddenly her blonde broke into a grin and she didn't understand why until a moment later when Thomas finished his rant. It was her turn to burst out laughing.
Yeah Serenity would come to kill him. That was the craziest thing she had heard all month, and that counted everything she had heard from Harvey. "I'm not sure how you got this idea in your head that the hero's in town will kill you. You should be more worried about the super villain who was at the party. But I digress, but they are not above the law your parents files were sealed for more then one reason, I would suggest you ask yourself exactly how well you knew your parents." She flicked her blonde hair back over her shoulder to keep it out of her face, "Oh and I am the least likely person in this town to kill you," That didn't mean she wasn't above taking him down with a very cheap shot but she didn't want him dead. She had enough spirits on her plate with the national guard running amok in town as it was.

Serenity's words struck deep into Tom's psyche, and he didn't like what she was implying. From one thought to another, he started to wonder why his parents had such late nights, why they were driving on the highway that day, and why they were laying in the graves a few feet away. As he formed whispered words, he clenched his fists, "No, no, no, no. Why... what are you implying? Why are the files sealed?" His hands shook a little as he thought about it all, and then raised his voice, "Why WOULDN'T the heroes want me dead right now? They could've DIED and I practically killed Annette."
As he raised his voice, he brought a hand to his forehead and pressed fingers into his eyes. He sighed and looked over at Serenity again with examining, scrutinizing eyes. "You don't look like you would kill me, but do I look like a villain to you?" Scratching at the back of his neck - that is, of course, near the implants - Thomas winced a little and looked back up at Serenity. "I'm getting some type of electrical interference, so can you please tell me why I'm sitting here and why they are dead before these start malfunctioning?"

SERENITY SWANSON know it all Serenity simply observed how Thomas's mind jumped from one topic to another so quickly. She had jus the other day in class gone over how the mind's processes were drastically affected by having those implants stuck into the body. It was interesting to see how it played out in person though, or watching how his different thought processes changed the future in very predictable patterns. It changed what would usually be textbook denial into a much more entertaining (and educational) experience for the blonde to watch.
She smirked slightly at his reference to electrical interference. Somehow she doubted that he would believe that they were surrounded by different ghosts right now, not his parents spirits per say but ghosts did tend to hang around their final resting places before they finally decided what to do with their afterlife. "To Clarify, I said they wouldn't kill you, there's quite a few that wish you would drop dead where you stand. You injured quite a few people and blew up our home." She pulled some files out of her bag and tossed the files over to where Thomas was sitting on the ground. "You do look like your father," Although what looking like a known villain had to do with being a villain was really a stupid question. Blacklist had been on the most wanted lists for years and she was not only five feet tall but skinny and mistaken for much younger then she was. Thomas on the other hand had the creepy villain down, even with the crazy technology (or self-destruct mechanism) plugged right into his brain.
Sorina paused in her flight around Thomas's head to glance back at her companion, "Wasn't he quoting To Kill a Mockingbird earlier? How does he not know you see spirits?" She laughed at Serenity's slight shrug and grinned when she saw the implant. One quick fly through that and it should stop working. Sometimes not being able to interact with the world was frustrating to the dove, but right now it was almost laughable that she was able to take out such a powerful villain without even leaving a scratch.

"How does looking like my father have anything to do with being a villain?" Thomas asked as he picked up the file emblazoned with the words "SEALED," "Top Secret," and "CASE FILE 14403-33-0001: BLACKHAT." Thomas started laughing for a minute and chuckled out, "You had me going there, for a minute, thinking that my Dad could've been some type of villain." Thomas had started to think that before she implied that he looked like his father, and implied that that looked like some sort of villain, but with confidence he opened up the file and started to speak before he started reading, "See, this is my file I'm Blackhat. It even has my name as Thomas Alkalines the..."
He stopped and stared at the file, and it fell to the ground in the horrible realization that in the "suffix" column on the sheet it didn't say III; it said II. Thomas shot back from the file like he'd seen a ghost, and a stream of "No, no, no, What is this? This can't be real," spewed from his throat. The wind picked up enough to turn the pages in front of him, and his eyes were glued to the information being absorbed and memorized thanks to his implants. Dates from when he was a kid, and before he was born told the story of his father as his own persona: Blackhat. Hacking into government this, and stealing money from that.
Thomas watched as the pages turned, showing military drones and ordinance exploded by an unknown hacker, and he asked himself whether or not his father - his nonviolent, loving father who introduced him to computers - was really a psychopath who ruined lives. Pieces fit together despite Thomas' insistence "No, no, no..." Over and over again. The late nights and secrecy of his work made sense. Finally, the last page rolled over and Thomas looked up at Serenity as he spat, "This can't be true, THIS CAN'T BE."

SERENITY SWANSON know it all Serenity was almost glad to see Thomas's decline right before her eyes, though not as glad as her companion who was cackling like a witch around his head. The seer herself was just glad to have stopped him in his tracks, the truth about how his parents died. The question of why the truth had been kept from him was dreadfully obvious now. They had been trying to stop him from becoming like his father.
Sorina kept her cackling up for a good two minutes, "Oh this is beautiful, so he became a criminal only to find out his parents died because his father was a criminal." Serenity chuckled at the dove's absolute glee at the situation. All he wanted was a reason way his parents had died and now that he had it it was very hard to believe.
It was nice to see that Thomas was finally realizing the truth of the papers in front of him. The medium had been careful to not say anything out right as he would just call her a liar. She liked letting someone find the answers out for themselves in a situation like this.
Now he had.
She pushed herself off the gravestone landing to the side of the grave. "There are two ways this can go right now. In door number one you go quietly to the plain-clothes officer that will be showing up here in to mourn his mother. In door number two you resist." She could go into all the ways that would not be ideal, especially with that lovely implant of his. She wondered if he had properly studied the long list of complications that came about when technology like that stopped working suddenly.
Both Serenity and Sorina had read up on it, and Sorina was rather trigger happy at the moment.

Thomas listened and didn't believe, but the evidence was in front of him. His eyes scanned from the graves to the hat, to the files, and back up to Serenity. "Why didn't they tell me? I never wanted to become this..." Thomas stood up slowly as he collected the contents of the folder with shaking hands. "I wanted to be the hero, the just hero that did what he had to because it was the right thing," He held the folder while he picked up his hat while looking at it differently than he had before.
Before, the hat was just the symbol that he went by, and he hadn't thought about it being a painful thing. He thought of it as the thing that saved him from grief when he would rather die than exist in an unjust and angry world. They thought, by keeping the truth from him, they could keep him from making a poor decision. Both the government, and his parents thought they could make him make the right choice, but he wasn't informed. Like the ill-informed populace, he made a decision without all the information and he would be haunted by that for the rest of his life. In anger, he took the hat by the brim and threw it, hard, as far away as he could like a Frisbee.
"They didn't tell me, and this is what I became..." He looked down at his hands as he huffed, and puffed back into a calm, the anger switching from them to himself. "Why did they die, exactly?" Thomas turned back to Serenity and asked, calmly as he could as the guilt built up inside again. "Tell me that, and you know which outcome I'll choose. I'd probably choose that outcome either way, and I'd rather surrender to the people I hurt instead of the police."
In a remorseful tone, he looked down to the ground and said six words with the most conviction he'd had in years, "I want to say I'm sorry."
