LOGAN, ATHENA
s h i f t
s h i f t
AGE: 22
GENDER: Female.
TEAM: Teen Titans.
SIDE: Heroine.
OCCUPATION: She's a full-time hero!
NATIONALITY: Her mother, who comes from a normal family, has roots in North Africa, mostly Sudan and Algeria. Her father, a retired hero, has roots in Europe; he isn't sure just where, as his parents passed when he was at an early age and he never got details from them.
HISTORY: Taking after her mother in looks, Athena was happy with her life as a child. She looked normal, had a normal life; sure, her father had been a hero once upon a time, but it was a long time ago, to her childhood mind. After retiring from the superhero business, Garfield had started a veterinary clinic - meeting his eventual wife, Renee Badawi, when she had brought in her ancient cat Mr. Snuffles. That vet clinic is still going strong, although Athena looks much different now than she did at age eleven (and poor Mr. Snuffles is no longer among the living).
It was a few weeks before her twelfth birthday that the future Titan passed out on the playground; taken to the emergency room, it was a solid month that she lost, unconscious and slowly changing. Waking up, Athena found that she had missed her twelfth birthday - and the face in the mirror was a green, furry version of her face a month ago. She had developed her fathers' unfortunate condition - but along with it, she had also aquired his ability to shape shift, though slightly diluted.
Two years later - after dropping public schooling for home-school and online courses, and seeing her older brother distance himself from the family and finally move out, at age seventeen, Athena was fourteen and hearing more and more reports of super-human criminals. She met the other kids who would be the first new Teen Titans shortly after she started pestering her father to let her start heroing - he wasn't very enthusiastic about the idea at the start, but eventually he caved in and helped her get permission from the city to open up the dusty West Titans' Tower again.
Fast forward a couple of years and half of her original team has gone their own ways, one is an enemy, and of her last two girlfriends one is dead and the other missing and wanted by the police, while her current team is taking on new members and trying to keep up with the villainous demands and other heroes in town.
FAMILY: Renee Badawi is her mother, Garfield 'Beast Boy/Changeling' Logan is her father, and Nero Logan is her older brother - currently estranged.
PERSONALITY: Athena can be bull-headed and authorative - leading a team of superheroes, often young teenagers, means that she has to be. Shift hates when people don't listen to her, although she sometimes doesn't listen to them - especially when she thinks that she knows better. On the flipside of those unfortunate traits, Athena also loves to be helpful and useful - she works hard so she and her team can be recognized as something good, a force of powerful heroism to be reckoned with.
In public, Athena knows that she has to act with a modicum of professionalism at all times - being green and fuzzy, Athena doesn't have much of a secret identity, so any rudeness or unfortunate comments she makes in the heat of the moment would follow her into her private life as well.
A former teammate, Goma Stone aka Hacker, gifted her with a watch that can make her look human; the illusion is ruined if anyone touches her; they will, of course, feel fur instead of skin. But it's enough to work with, though the battery only lasts three hours, and it's rather nice for the heroine whenever the noise and drama of the superhero world gets too much and she just wants a night on her own.
DISLIKES: Athena, for obvious reasons, won't eat meat. She also dislikes unnatural heights, like flying in a plane or the top floor of a skyscraper; she's much more used to the buildings in Jump rather than the super-high type in, say, New York City.
DREAMS: For Jump - and the rest of the universe - to be at peace, if only for a little while. To own a giant library.
FEARS: Death - her teammates or herself dying, specifically. She's not a fan of slime, either, and absolutely hates to fail at something.
HOPES: For her team to become the best and for Jump City to have a peaceful week or two consecutively.

BODY STRUCTURE: Shift is not big-boned, as it were, but neither is she skinny - the heroine is a normal size for someone 5'6" and muscular. She isn't super strong, nor does she have a body-builder physique, but she does actually have to work to be able to beat the bad guys, as well as do all the jumping and ducking and such that is required in her 'profession'.
Her hair is short, of course - kept that way, and usually tightly curled, which she likes better than plainly straight or intricate 'dos, and also less likely to be a target for someone to yank on in a fight. Her dark brown eyes almost perfectly match the lighter color of her natural hair. In human form, her skin is dark green - it was once dark brown, before the heroine gained her powers. She also has fur all over her body, a matching dark green; it covers very lightly her face - and all other places humans generally only have fine, thin hair. It gets thicker in other places - her elbows and legs in particular, much to her sometimes-annoyance.
STYLE: Much the same as her costume, considering she doesn't tend to hit the scene very much, so she's not up-to-date on style.
A t-shirt, maybe a longer-sleeved one underneath for some layered variety in the deepest part of winter, a pair of jeans or khaki's and one or two different pairs of shoes for different colored ensembles. Some jewelry, if she remembers to put it on - her piercings, of course, maybe a necklace or dangling hoop earrings.
COSTUME: Generally, Athena wears a thick cotton tank top or t-shirt - a long-sleeved shirt in the winter only, and ery rarely, because her natural fur coat makes her much too likely to overheat if she wears bulky or warm clothing. None of her tops show much cleavage, and all are well-made to stand up to running and jumping and whatnot; none of that flimsy material models parade in.
Either pants of the same material - rock-climber type, or something equally durable - that are just a tad loose, though they fit well. Not comfortable wearing sandals or shorts, it's always pants and a pair of size eight dark hiking boots in costume, laced tightly. All of her outfit is black, excepting her thick, dark green belt and a patch or two of the same green color on her shirt front, near the bottom.
ODDITIES: Obviously, her shape-shifting and subsequent 'side-affects' of green fur and pointed ears make Athena an odd duckling - so to speak - but her piercings, which she wears everywhere that isn't a formal occasion, don't help her blend in much...not that she could without her watch, of course, anyway.
ABILITIES: Besides being the leader of the Teen Titans for the past five or so years, Athena's also got her dads' nifty shape shifting power. It's useful, but limited to real-life, existing animals - no unicorns or dinosaurs, for instance.
CONTROL: 8. Sometimes, when she's very angry - or very excited - she unconsciously shifts into a form that suits that mood. (A bear for rage, a dog for being happy, that sort of thing, although it might vary under some circumstances, and doesn't happen often.) She also cannot speak human tongue while in an animal shift; unlike her father, she has yet to discover that skill.
SIDE-AFFECTS: Her powers being shape-shifting, the side-effects would seem to be her green skin and fur, as well as slightly pointed ear tips and mildly longer canine teeth, though it's barely noticeable unless one knows what to look for.
WEAKNESSES: She's got a bad habit of not owning up to things, her own weaknesses being a good example. She likes water fine but doesn't like swimming excessively or anything - her fur in human form takes ages to dry.
Athena's pride is another big hang-up for the heroine; if you insult her team, or herself, she's not going to be able to keep a diplomatic face. Shift might not be able to keep a civil tongue in her head, either, depending on the person who is fling the insults - she and Damian 'Nightwing' Wayne have butted heads several times over that, though it's perhaps a shade or two friendlier than it was when they first met.
Disrespect is something the heroine has a hard time swallowing - quite the blind spot for her, considering that the villains her team faces have very little respect for anyone.
