Stone, Annette

AGE: 17
GENDER: Female
TEAM: Titans East
SIDE: Hero
OCCUPATION: Formerly Unemployed due to illness. After her hiatus, she officially registered as a vigilante for Jump City.
NATIONALITY: The origins of the Annette’s family are unknown, majoritably under the suspicion that O’Jeneus is likely not her father’s real last name. As such, little can be said of her nationality. Given her former appearance though, she can be assumed to have origins within the loop of countries in Scandinavia, likely Sweden or Norway. Given her father’s appearance also in mind, Norway is most likely.
HISTORY: Annette was conceived out an extremely rough night for the former Titan supervillain Gizmo. The details were sketchy as to what exactly went on, but the reasonably important result of the matter was neither Gizmo or Margaret, the woman he impregnated wanted to raise the baby Annette who at birth was diagnosed with a crippling genetic disease that would likely leave her hospitalized for a significant portion of her adult life.
So from a young age, she was left an orphan, unwanted. Her caretakers did what they could, but oftentimes she was left in significant amounts of pain since the orphanage’s medical supplies were sparse at best. In the rare times Annette was free of her pain thanks to drugs, she often played with the supplies within the orphanage, creating structures and ingenius solutions using common household objects. Despite her pain, the nuns of the orphanage noted, Annette did everything possible to keep a smile on her face.
Around the age of two, Annette was walking around the orphanage with the help of a makeshift crutch fastened from a pop-it pusher toy. It was around this time a very important person entered Anne’s life. Arriving at the orphanage was Victor Stone, otherwise known as Cyborg and his then wife, Alaine. The two sought to adopt a child as Cyborg’s organic damage made him incapable of having a child of his own. As Annette strolled up to Victor with her little wheeling crutch, it took no deliberation to know which child he’d be taking home.
Of course, he also came with the hope that his knowledge of technology and mechanics could help Annette’s disability, much like it saved his own life in the past. He poured himself into the issue, finding he struggled to find a solution that made her seem normal and comfortable. As weeks, and soon months clicked away, Alaine became concerned that Victor was so invested in helping Annette that he would miss the arguably more important factor of watching her grow up and acting as a father to her.
Seeing his wife’s reasoning, he abandoned his research to simply just be a father for Annette, doing the best he could to help her through her pain emotionally. Noticing her tendency to invent with common objects, Victor got the idea to take Annette into his lab with him which had essentially become his work place since he was contracted to create mechanical solutions for the government. The girl found a second home in Victor’s lab, very quickly spending more time there than even Victor himself working on basic solutions and concepts. When she entered the lab, it was almost as if the pain was gone just for a little while. When she focused on her ideas, she couldn’t focus on the pain.
Victor was happy to see that a solution had come even without technological interference, but worry began setting in. He couldn’t be with Annette in the lab all the time, but she wanted to go there more and more. As much as he trusted his daughter, he couldn’t leave her unsupervised. It seemed a technical solution would come in handy this time.
With a little bit of programming knowledge, Victor created what would come to be known to the Stone family as Naomi; an AI program capable and analyzing human emotions and actions and responding to them and jumping from device to device in the lab taking full control of them. It also had a sort of basic personality to it. Naomi served as a program capable of stopping any machines threatening Annette’s life, but also as a sort of friend and companion to speak to Annette without him around.
Victor was worried Annette wouldn’t take to Naomi very well, but to his surprise, she quickly accepted the computer in as a friend despite it’s rather limited ability to respond to her. Satisfied though, Victor left Annette to explore her interests to her own leisure, happy to serve as a mentor to her.
What he was more surprised to find was within a couple weeks, Naomi had evolved. She began to exhibit abilities that he hadn’t programmed into her, nor was he aware anyone knew how to do. Naomi began grasping sarcasm, emotion, and other concepts that had been seen as impossible to show an AI and have them understand. To this day, Victor has no idea how Annette got Naomi to expand, and all attempts at recreating the effect had gone to naught. Inadvertently, Naomi had been made one of a kind.
And so Annette and Naomi grew up together, eventually with Naomi coming to regard Victor and Alaine as mother and father as well. Before long, the two of them were essentially sisters of a sort. Annette as an inventor and programmer grew to a prodigal level as she got into her teen years, while Naomi learned to expand her own abilities, projecting herself onto screens and creating an image of herself, reaching a wider range of devices through datawaves, and accessing all the functions of a particular device. Their talents culminated into an event that would change them both forever.
For Naomi’s 10th birthday, Annette unveiled what would be her greatest invention yet. A physical recreation of Naomi’s appearance in the form of a jointed android. With the device, Naomi could enter it’s circuitry and interact with the rest of the world like a human being… Well, a human being made of metal who looks like a cartoon character, but still. As the android rose to life, Annette hugged her half-sister for the first time in her life.
The success of the project caught the attention of Wally West, whom Cyborg had grown close to in their later years. Seeing the potential of Annette and Naomi as a crime fighting duo similar to Batman and Oracle back in the day, Wally posed the idea of the two of them joining Titans East to Victor.
His reaction was not exactly pleasant. Victor respected The Flash and all, but he was entirely against putting his already physically unstable daughter into the world of crime-fighting. Wally came prepared though. He recollected Victor’s own story. How he had been on the verge of death one day and a hero of the city the next. How much his own setbacks made him want to fight for others and how much pride he felt being a Titan and subsequently a Justice League member.
Caving before emotional reasoning, Victor reveled in the nostalgia Wally brought to him and decided to bring the question to Annette and Naomi. High off their progress in life and success, the two eagerly said yes and over the next week were brought to the Titans East Tower. Unfortunately, just as the two began to settle in, Annette’s condition got worse.
A column in her spine collapsed under itself from overworking herself in the lab too much. With a doctor’s aid and a metallic replacement for the column fashioned by Victor, Annette survived the ordeal, but walking was excruciatingly more painful for Annette now. Her doctor recommended her to remain in bed as much as possible. It seemed that Annette and Naomi’s crime-fighting career had ended before it even began.
But Annette had other plans. Over night, with the help of Naomi, Annette transformed the room she’d been assigned in Titans Tower East into a control center for the entire facility. Functions of all kinds as well as Naomi’s repair station were within reach of her bed which moved mechanically from place to place. Thoroughly, she solidified herself as an irreplaceable asset to Titans East.
Wally and Victor were blown away by Annette’s ability to simply just smile through everything. Her crippling weakness, the fact that she’d never live a normal life, and she could barely leave a bed. Everything thrown at her, she just continued smiling through it all. Over time, Annette and Naomi established themselves as a force to be reckoned with. Naomi’s suit was upgraded to serve all purpose of functions in crime-fighting and Annette had revamped the entire mechanical setup for the Titans East Tower creating a fluid command center worthy of the Teen Titans. And as anyone could expect, she was still smiling through it all.
After a significant tenure and a thorough demonstration of her ability to lead the East Titans through their missions and make their tower the best it possibly could through her technical improvements, it was unanimously decided that Annette (Not Naomi as well mind you) would assume the position of the leader Teen Titans East at the resignation and retirement of the previous leader coming in the next month. Several months later, Annette was getting used to her place as the leader, but she took it the best she possibly can, and as far as the East Titans were concerned, they were fairly happy with the decision.
However, tragedy struck the Stones once again on Halloween of the previous year. Whilst experimenting with a prototype device allowing her mobility in order to allow her to enjoy a party at Titans Tower West, missiles struck the building and Annette was severely burned, scarred, and crippled. If not for Naomi flying her out of the blaze, she would've died then and there. While she did manage to survive the night, things did not look well for Annette. The device had severely malfunctioned from the force of the blast and her entire spinal column was at threat to collapse. Within hours, she went comatose in her father's residence with Naomi and her parents at her side. They all feared she may never wake up.
After an agonizing two months with no progress on Annette's condition, Naomi approached her pseudo-father Victor with an idea. Based on the schematics of Annette's prototype, and some blueprints taken from Victor's own operation, Naomi proposed a robotic enhancement to Annette that would both save her and grant the mobility she had been deprived of her entire life. Cyborg was more than enthusiastic for anything positive but questioned Naomi where she would get the kind of technology that was already so used to psychological impulse. With a heavy heart, she remarked that it would require dismantling her permanently. Her persona would live on within Annette's mind, but her life of a physical entity would end.
Cyborg vehemently denied this option, scolding Naomi for even considering it, but as Annette's condition only worsened. It seemed like the only possibility. On the night of the New Year, Naomi gave the ultimate sacrifice to allow Annette to continue her own life, confident that as long as she could be with Annette, she would be happy. The operation took hours and caused many tears as Naomi gave her final goodbye to her father, but at the peak hours of the morning, Annette finally reopened her eyes.
Following her renewal into the world, Annette was informed of what had happened, the missile crisis already well resolved. Naomi's sacrifice brought her into a rage, but the process was irreversible. She could not do anything to stop it. Following a series of surgeries to remove the scars and burns that had destroyed her body in the fire, Annette barely even looked like the same person anymore. She didn't act like the same person either. The events had a strong impact on her. On her levels of trust, her belief, and a lingering anger that her sister would sacrifice herself without consulting her first. While she was still very arguably the same Annette that had led the Titans East, there was a change in her that would not be taken back.
FAMILY:
Father: Mikron O’Jeneus (Gizmo)
Mother: Margaret Toms
Adoptive Mother: Alaine Stone
Adoptive Father: Victor Stone (Cyborg)
Half-Sort-Of Sister: Naomi Stone
PERSONALITY:
Annette is a rather quiet girl, preferring to exist within her mind rather than in reality. She revels in making people feel appreciated and feel happy. However, in recent years, her definition of appreciation has changed. While still positive and encouraging, she has incoporated a bit more criticism in her words, sugar-coating her teammate's short-comings far less than she had in the past. If forced into conversation, she can feel a bit awkward, often ignoring things said to her to avoid speaking any more and fidgeting. Notably, Naomi and her can talk endlessly in her head, often harassing each other playfully and generally acting like sisters. Given no one can hear either of them in these conversations though, it can seem weird when Annette's just standing there making faces. In command mode while issuing information and intel to the Titans in the field, she speaks with authority and confidence, relaying information in the most professional manner possible, even more so than she used to. It can seem like she’s married to her work to many as she talks plenty to get information out, but will refuse to speak on a colloquial level. She used to try changing this, but she's settled into the persona comfortably now and just accepts that she's not a social person.
DISLIKES: “Being Underestimated” As a cyborg/android, Annette does not appreciate being mocked for being now only half human. She also does not take kindly at all to any remarks of incompetence based on her gender. She is quite ingenious and can find solutions to getting around issues she faces as a semi-artificial being. “Mindless Noise:” A serious pet peeve. Annette hates it when people just make noise for the sake of making noise. Doing it is one of the one ways too see her get the teeniest bit angry.
FEARS: “Loss” - Annette's entire personality shifted at the loss of her sister Naomi, a person she relied upon as a guiding light in her life. While she still does have Naomi in her mind, and not as willing to let people get so close to her, she still fears losing those close to her more than ever now.
HOPES: “Rebirth” - While it was explicitly noted the process performed to save her life was irreversible, Annette still hopes to find a way someday to give Naomi her own body back. Some may argue this is a unhealthy obsessive hopeless dream, but she will follow it until she dies.

It lingers in my mind,
And the thought keeps growing bigger
And the thought keeps growing bigger
BODY STRUCTURE: Annette was once a short and sickly looking girl. Her skin a ghostly pallor at most times, standing a little below 5 feet tall. Due to her cybernetic implants however, her health has tremendously improved. Her face is much more full of color, her height has increased from proper posture, and she has a lot more meat on her bones. The freckles on her face that were once barely visible have come into full shade and are very apparent. Her hair is slightly curly, brown and a lot more often styled than she had it before. Many would barely recognize her at this point given her much more conventionally attractive appearance. Her smile though is still warming and and obviously just a little bit more happy than she was before.
She also now has several parts of her that have been chromitized. Both her forearms have silver and fuschsia plating across their outer halves. Her right hand in particular is also mechanical, standing out against her organic left hand. Her entire lower left side all the way up to her abdomen is also mechanical. Finally, her cheekbone on her right side is also covered with a glowing mechanical plate that is wired to her false right eye that contains a fuchsia iris that stands contrasting against the hazel iris in her left eye.
STYLE: Annette is still developing a style as she really hasn't had a chance to delve into fashion up until now. You could see her in any kind of outfit, experimental or not. Just... be careful about telling her she's clashing. She may have a mental breakdown.
COSTUME: Countering her everyday style, Annette's costume accentuates, rather than hides her inorganic parts, letting them stand at the highlight. In honor of Naomi's former costume, she wears a version of the same outfit with a more fuchsia-theme to fit her parts. She also incorporates some aspects of her web persona, Sakura, forming into a cyber-looking kimono of sorts, complete with an energy sword at the hip.
ODDITIES: Well apart from the fact that she has a mechanized computer program in her head feeding her advice all the time that no one else can hear, Annette has never been able to make a complete House of Cards despite trying at it nearly everyday. Even after cyber implants.
ABILITIES: Annette has a massive knowledge of technological information and mechanical design under her sleeve having worked under Cyborg as an apprentice as well as a daughter to him and at her fingertips has an entire control station capable of looking up information from around the world in a second and controlling all the devices and machines under Teen Titans East’s control. She also has an ear to all the Teen Titans East members so long as they are listening and can give them information as needed. Naomi as AI lives within the sound and transmission waves of the world. As such, she can transfer her being into any computer controlled device from a laptop to a microwave to a security system. She of course would meet the same resistant a hacker would if she attempted to break into these devices functions, but once inside, she can control the devices entire range of functions. Annette also has robotic implants that are fitted with all manner of features designed for fighting crime which includes rocket shoes for flight, enhanced strength, and a multitude of visional analysis devices that can be linked back to Naomi. Being an AI as well, Naomi is incapable of dying. Her personality and memories are backed up in Annette’s database. If her processor in Annette's skull were somehow damaged or destroyed, then it would simply be a quick operation to fix the issue. As well, Annette has added her own personal touch of an energy sword she wields in combat. While not exactly the most useful thing, it looks really flashy and cool so there's that. It'll only be a matter of time before she realizes it's silly and puts it away.
CONTROL: 8. Naomi can sometimes be redirected into the wrong device if a new signal enters the mix mid-transfer. As well, Annette's implants are subject to the occasional malfunction.
SIDE-AFFECTS: Annette is pretty obviously not entirely human when her implants are exposed. As well, when Naomi is inhabiting a particular device, whatever lights it emits often turn blue. Annette's rocket boots leave a blue smoke trail as she flies as well.
WEAKNESSES:
“Neurological Waves” - Naomi can only transfer between devices if there is a technological data wave she can ride on. If a sort of data-scrambler or cell-inhibitor active in the area, Naomi is confined to whatever she’s in at that moment. Such devices also make it impossible for Annette to contact people.
“Weight” - Being made of partially of metal, Annette weighs a lot more than a normal human being making a lot of conventional means of travel unavailable to her and a liability in areas of weak ground.
“One-at-a-time” - Naomi can only be in one device at a time. Thus, if she jumps into a security system from her Annette's suit, then the two of them can no longer communicate.
“Potential Corruption - Annette's implants can become “corrupted” as they are inherently computer programs. In these cases, That particular implant will start to behave erratically and not listen to Annette's neural commands. These trends will keep up until Annette can issue a virus killed into the implant which requires a device with strong access to the internet in order to access her database for the program cleaner which can be difficult when in the middle of combat, or in a distant rural area.
I'm sorry my sweet baby,

INTRODUCTION:
QUERY: What is your purpose?
RESPONSE: To kick ass and chew bubblegum. And I’m all out of gum.
A blue streak of smoke appeared over Jump City as the artificial superhero Naomi flew from North to South in response to an alert issued by the Teen Titans West for backup. The lovely thing about being an artificial being was the fact that she didn’t have to stop for food or the restroom. Just straight flying across the whole country over night. It wasn’t uncommon for Titans West distress calls to their cross country allies. In fact, fellow Titans Easter Kid Flash seemed to be in Jump City more than Steel City a lot of the time.
Patching into the coordinates relayed by the alert, Naomi diverted her course towards a corn field on the outskirts of the city and sped up her pace. As she did, a voice within her head crackled into life ”Don’t cause too much trouble Naomi. We’re guests here,” the soft spoken voice came through, unable to be heard by anyone else. Naomi’s connection with her partner in justice, Annette was unique against the rest of the Titans East. For one, they were sisters, or at least the closest an artificial intelligence could have to a sister, and for another, Annette’s patch went directly into Naomi’s databanks which made her advice silent. Annette’s feed to the rest of the Titans was through earphone or communicator, which while quiet, could be patched into.
Just as silently Naomi responded ”Don’t you worry Anne! I’m just gonna dish out some beatings, shut down the operation, maybe grab a snack, and then I’m gone. Simple.” Of course, by snack, she meant snagging some of the operation’s data. While not needing physical food, Naomi did need to feed on data scraps to keep herself in fully functioning condition. The more she consumed, the less likely she was to accidentally get corrupted and force Annette to have to upload a backup. Naomi hated having to go to the backup. It felt uncomfortable and it made her memory a bit sketchy for the next couple hours.
”It’s never simple with you Naomi. We both know this,” Annette responded with a sigh. Back in Steel City, Annette sat in her bed pushing computers on swivels back and forth, jumping into feeds from every which direction, all while clicking through channels on the headset strapped around her head and issuing streams of advice to the other Titans East members. ”Bogey on the left KF, take the corner slowly,” she spoke quickly after clicking a button on the side of her headset. She turned her attention to the large screen ahead of her and clicked another button. ”An entrance into the facility is probably hidden in the farmhouse, I’d look there first… Why aren’t you slowing down Naomi?”
”I have another idea Annie,” she snickered as she increased speed approaching the ground. As a stream of objections came through from Annette, Naomi extended her fist ahead of her and flew directly into the corn field, bursting through a layer of soil, a layer of gravel, and then a layer of metal into an underground facility of some sort. Her landing left a huge dent in the ground and the researchers in the room quickly began panicking at the sudden intrusion.
”Naomi! What are you thinking?! We could have surprised them!” Annette fumed as her comrade stood up and began vaulting desks through the facility. In her mind, Annette was thinking of all the reasons her sister should be thankful she couldn’t stand up hardly at all.
”By using the front door Annie? I think my entrance surprised them plenty,” Naomi laughed much hardier than before as she approached a nervous looking seedy man with a golden yellow H emblazoned on his coat. With a hand, she grabbed his collar and lifted him up with complete ease. He quickly began struggling uselessly in her fist. ”Sup Hive guy. Where’s the data for the project? Make it quick or you know, I could get ugly,” she spoke aloud to the man, her cutesy little voice hardly seeming intimidating.
”Ugly? I’d love to see you try,” he grunted, trying to force himself away and failing. Naomi sighed in response, letting him dip a little.
”Alright, well you asked for it,” she said seemingly disappointed, but inside absolutely excited about his decision. ”Let’s make some sparks Annie,” she silently noted to her partner who proceeded to press a series of keys and commands. All of a sudden, the lights in the facility began to flicker and pop, and to the man in the suit, it felt like things were shaking like an earthquake. In reality, Naomi’s fist was just vibrating. The fake earthquake was completed with a metal panel falling from the ceiling causing a loud metallic clanking. Naomi hadn’t actually planned for the panel to fall, but she likely just loosened it when she came crashing in.
”Okay okay I’ll talk! Just make it stop! This place isn’t earthquake protected!” he spoke nervously, wriggling more than before in a panic. ”It’s in the basement, there’s a hidden panel in the corner leading to it!” he screeched out, prompting Naomi to drop him and make him realize there was no earthquake.
”Thanks Hive guy!” Naomi answered with a smile before skipping along on her way to the corner. She grabbed the side of the floor panel, and proceeded to the tear the entire thing off it’s hinges.
”You know, you CAN use a door like a normal person sometimes,” Annette spoke with disdain watching the panel go flying across the room.
”But what fun is that Anne?” Naomi cheekily responded as she descended into the dark room below.
Flicking on her night vision, Naomi saw the room was filled with giant super computer drives. The sight made her lick her lips in hunger.
”You get one Naomi. Anymore will be too much of this information kept around,” Annette advised from afar, stopping Naomi before she got too far.
”Yeah, yeah, I know. Partypooper” she grumbled, getting her mitts on one of the super computers. One might wonder why she would mutter on a mental channel, but she liked reminding Annette she ruined her fun sometimes. It was a sister thing. Looking over the computer, Naomi found a particular set of cord inserts and stuck her fingers inside of them with some force.
The computer sprung to life, going absolutely crazy displaying all sorts of figures and characters on it’s screen and flashing lights all over the console. Naomi smiled as a progress bar appeared on the screen and quickly went from 0 to 100%, displaying the message ‘Data Erased’ on the screen as it finished. Satisfied, she removed her hand from the ports and proceeded to kick a huge hole into the computer. Soon, she began beating the rest of the super computers to a pulp in a surprisingly casual rage. When she was finished, the whole room was covered in shattered motherboards and plastic parts.
”Well, my work here is done. Imagine if we had gone through the front door like your wanted to. Would’ve taken forever!” Naomi mocked Annette as she climbed back up into the main room where nearly all the researchers had evacuated.
”Just get back home soon. I’m not even sure why the Titans called us over here, that entire thing was just too easy,” Annette pondered as Naomi prepared for take-off through the hole she’d made in the roof.
”Kind of odd there weren’t any Titans here either,” Naomi noted, shooting off into the sky. As they left, the man Naomi had interrogated laughed after a couple seconds before pulling out a comm device of some kind.
”The plan worked just as intended. I knew they would overlook everything. It’s only a matter of time now until we can find out what it is that makes that robot girl tick,” he spoke as he pulled off his false face and costume and vanished into the darkness.
