HISTORY:
Tikaani was technically born by the hand of Professor Nauja Locklear. The Professor had been studying the origins of supernatural monsters roaming in the Canadian wildlands, and tied many of them to a particular form of human capable of hosting unnatural pneuma of other beings within themselves. At first, he had thought the factor to merely be a sort of genetic factor within some humans, but as he studied deeper, he learned that these 'spirit vessels' were not human at all and in fact held very different attributes from humans such as the ability to survive fatal scenarios, shift their forms, and take on memories and skills they didn't otherwise have.
Realizing these vessels were not birthed through the normal human process, Professor Locklear set forth into figuring out how to create these beings, but found himself stumped. He needed an actual vessel to analyze. After hearing about a village supposedly attacked by the Wendigo, a monster the Professor theorized to be a vessel itself, he took the situation to his advantage and convinced the village to work with him to capture the beast.
The attempts were in vain however. No matter what the village tried, the monster would find a way to get out of it's holdings. The ultimate solution turned out to be simpler than anyone imagined. As the Professor was wandering around smoking his pipe, the Wendigo approached him. The Professor was prepared to fight for his life, but the monster explained it knew who he was and what he was after. It told him it would aid him in creating a spirit vessel in exchange that it be allowed to present at the creation.
Having no qualm with this, Locklear agreed, taking the monster back to his lab in Umiujaq. The Wendigo there taught him of the ritual of creating a spirit vessel that resembled the European tradition of alchemy, gathering all the aspects of the vessel and placing them in ritualistic circle. As he progressed through the ingredients, the Professor became more and more aware that the Spirit Vessel Ritual was of a very dark form of art. Something that wasn't meant to be done. His curiosity got the better of him though and he continued. Among the ingredients necessary, only one remained. The blood of a guardian.
Taking a knife, the Professor contributed his own blood to the pile of various carcasses and herbs. In a mystical flash, the ingredients blended together and formed the shape of an infant. Proud of his acheivement, he named the child Tikaani after his own mother. The Professor was amazed at the ritual, but his amazement would not last long. The Wendigo had been crafty. As a possessed vessel, it could not create a new spirit vessel himself, so it had manipulated the Professor into doing so. Being present at the ritual, the Wendigo murdered the professor and took the vessel for itself, fleeing into the wilderness of the Canadian forest.
The monster was intercepted by a strange dark blue creature on four paws and a flying black and red beast who attacked the Wendigo until it relinquished the small vessel. These two creatures were in fact the two gods, Coyote and Raven, some of the only beings that posed a threat to the Wendigo. Alone without a parent, the product of the wicked machinations of an evil spirit, the two godly creatures decided to set aside their differences and provide guidance for the child, not allowing her to fall into the dark paths that many other spirit vessels did.
With the help of the many spirits of the wild, Coyote and Raven raised Tikaani to respect nature and value it's blessings. As they did, she came to regard them as her mother and father and all the other animals as her many aunts and uncles. Even the spirit of man taught her manners and habits for the day that she would eventually re-enter the society around her in order to show them the way of nature.
At 15, Coyote approached the matured Tikaani. It was time for her to leave the nest now that the human society would recognize her as an individual without need of guardianship. (You try telling people your mom and dad are spirits of nature and you don't need a foster family.) He however had a task for her. With the power she was granted as a spirit vessel, he requested that she use her gift for good. Particularly, to cleanse the other spirit vessels who have been corrupted by evil spirits such as the Wendigo, the Caddaja, and the Skinwalker.
She agreed to such a task, eager to make her father and mother proud. However, Raven wasn't so avid to send the girl out by her lonesome into the world. She called upon her best soldier, the Hawk; Tokiro to be Tikaani's traveling companion. With Tokiro on her shoulder and a bag of supplies, Tikaani re-entered the society she'd been born into. One of the first discoveries she made was of the heroes that pervaded in society. She reveled in stories of the Justice League and saw herself as just such a hero, wanting to fight crime and make the world a better place. She made talk of wanting to join a society of heroes, but Tokiro quickly reminded her of her task of cleansing the other spirit vessels. She figured though, why can't she do both?

PERSONALITY:
Don't let the beads and jadestone fool you, Tikaani, often just going by Kaani, is a fairly modern gal. She's boisterous, sarcastic, and generally a rebel with a cause. She does however have a strong stake in her own heritage. Her vegan, environmentalist lifestyle finds it's way at the forefront of many of her actions and she will take any opportunity someone will allow her to talk at length about the atrocities people commit against nature. Not to say she's forceful about her views. If you don't want to hear it, she won't tell you. Like a vampire, she doesn't start until she gets an invitation to.
Her relationship with her adoptive father Coyote is a contentious one, often pushing into love-hate territories. As a trickster god, Coyote relishes in being cryptic, rude, and downright annoying. Kaani respects that it's his nature and realizes he was kind enough to take her in, but she's not afraid to give him shit about his habits. Her relationship with her mother; The Raven, is more tender, representing a more traditional parental relationship. Raven doesn't hesitate to step in and defend Coyote though during him and Kaani's bickering.
DISLIKES: Demons, Wasps, Pollution, Animal Cruelty
DREAMS: Hopes that the world can come to appreciate nature again, but she realizes this likely won't occur in her lifetime.

Left us all their bills to pay
BODY STRUCTURE: As a member of the Inuit tribe from Quebec, Takaani's skin tone ranges more pale than many of the American Plains and Forest tribes. She is a fairly muscular individual, possessing an athletic frame and a decent level of toning. Her hair is straight and long, with many decorative beads weaved into it in various places.
STYLE: Her clothing leans towards the more unisexual, preferring a pair of torn-up jeans to skirts anyday. She has a fairly significant collection of faux-jewelry she wears on her wrists and neck
PIERCINGS OR TATTOOS: Matching bracelet tattoos on her arms. Typically unseen, she also has a tattoo depicting her adoptive father: Coyote across her back.
COSTUME: Her costume does not vary much from her usual attire. That which does is more for convenience than concealing her identity. She will usually wear looser clothes when preparing trips where she'll be using her powers as sudden transformations in the size of your body will often destroy clothing in a pinch, or least stretch it out really badly. The one part of her that is unique to a costume is her spirit paint markings on her face, (Not to be confused with 'war paint' and her tendency to wear pelts in order to strengthen the divination towards a particular spirit. She put these pelts anywhere from on her head, to just tied around her waist haphazardously. So long as they're making contact with her, it works.
ODDITIES: I dunno, the fact that she was birthed to life through a ritual and got kidnapped by a giant deer demon? Seems pretty odd to me. She's a vegan environmentalist too.
ABILITIES:
Spirit Call - Kaani can call upon the spirits reigned over by Coyote and Raven to aid her in combat. When they do this, her body and their spirit merge creating a hybrid between the two; a manner of animal-humanoid mesh. Such examples are attaining the claws of a bear, the wings of a crow, or the nose of a wolf. The merging can also result in different effects everytime it is performed.
Invulnerability - As a Spirit Vessel, Tikaani cannot actually die when she is not merged with a spirit. She feels pain all the same and all damages still occur such as broken bones, disease, and torn flesh, but until she is merged with a spirit she cannot pass on.
Animal Communication - Tikaani can talk and understand the language of animals of nature, so long as they are benevolent and under Coyote's reign. Malevolent creatures such as demons, wasps, hyenas, and evil spirits do not understand nor can be understood by Tikaani. As well, said animals can share their sensory impulses with Tikaani, allowing her to see through their eyes, feel with their skin, and hear with their ears.
CONTROL: 9
SIDE-AFFECTS: It's generally pretty obvious she's channeling a spirit given her body changes shape and all and she no longer looks human.
WEAKNESSES:
Magical Weakness - Being a Spirit Vessel, magic effects Tikaani much harsher than it does a normal human being. Damaging moves will strike much harder, and spells will often have even more drastic effects. Even positive spells will often go haywire when used on her.
Meditation - Tikaani must perform a strict regimen of complex meditation every single day in order to maintain her power and connection to Coyote. During this meditation, she is in tune with the spirit of nature itself, and is thus vulnerable and completely defenseless. Skipping this ritual too many times can have very harmful effects like losing the ability to speak to Coyote and Raven and some consequences as harsh as death. The effects are obvious as well as her hair will slowly turn white with prolonged absence from meditation.
Possession Magnet - For evil spirits and demons, her presence is essentially a giant glowing beacon. They know when she is closeby (within a half-mile away) and depending on their spiritual influence can potentially even pinpoint her exact location. As well, unless she has a spirit-imbuing her, a spirit can force themselves into her and obtain partial control of her. She has the capability to fight against the spirit, and given the right procedure can expel it from herself, but that becomes a lot harder when your left hand refuses to cooperate.

INTRODUCTION:
"You really think there's something here Tokiro? I mean, the snare's going off like there's no tomorrow, but usually by now any demon has made a full frontal assault on us," the young hero remarked looking at the stringed glowing device wrapped around her fingers; the hawk on her shoulder looking at it curiously. The Spirit Snare as it was called was a double-purposed device. It was capable of sensing spiritual energy and glowing at various brightnesses depending on the distance of the spirit, but was also the same device used to capture said spirit once it was detached from it's host.
"Admittedly, the snare has been wrong before... But I think it's right. Something isn't right here at all," the hawk's suave gentlemanly voice spoke purely in Tikaani's head. She always wondered what people thought being able to hear her words but not the words of the animals she spoke to.
Sighing, Tikaani stopped walking and looked in each direction of the forest the two of them were in. The red clay paint on her face was starting to itch. She really hated that about this stuff. It was super comfy while it was still warm, but it just became completely itchy once it cooled down. On top of it, she couldn't scratch at it at all. If so much as a speck of the symbols on her face were broken, their effects would be lost instantly making this ghost hunt even more difficult than it already is.
The sound of a rustling bush instantly drew the attention of both Tikaani and Tokiro. The both of them posed in alert, Tokiro ready to claw out some eyeballs and Tikanni entirely prepared to bust out some bear claws and shred whatever was waiting in the woods. Tikaani focused her eyes on the bush and slowly began a cautious approach. She jumped up startled as the pelt on her head cocked over her eyes and blocked her vision. After a moment of panic, she realized the issue and simply pushed the pelt back up onto her head. "I personally think you should've spent at least three more years training with Coyote," Tokiro sighed, embarrassed at the display.
"Oh shut up. You're on edge too," Tikaani spat at the bird, giving him a silent raspberry as he wasn't looking.
She continued her approach and jumped forward, pulling the push apart. Lying inside was simply a rabbit. With a curious glance, it eyes Tikaani a second before hopping off. "Huh. False alarm then... Tokiro?" Tikaani sighed, relaxing. Turning to her companion, she noticed he was very fearfully looking behind them. Curious, Tikaani turned and met eyes with a giant glowing black rabbit with burning red eyes. "Oh. Not a false alarm then," she said meekly looking into the demon rabbit's harsh eyes. She made to quickly prepare a battle motion, but the demon was faster, flipping onto it's front legs and kicking Tikaani into the sky above the trees with a massive show of strength. Tokiro of course was smart enough to leave his perch before impact.
With a loud thud, Tikaani landed on pure concrete and let out a long groan. "Well, there goes my spine. Sure hope someone walks by and calls 911 soon," she mumbled to herself, assessing the various pains throughout her whole body. After a failed attempt to sit up, she resolves to just lay in her landing place. She casts a glare at Tokiro as he proceeds to land at her side unharmed. "You could've said something,"
"I could've done a lot of things. No sense in worrying about it now... What did you say this city was called? Odds are we're going to be here a little while," Tokiro sighed, dodging the blame quickly.
"Jump City. Home of the Tween Titans and the most frustrating forest in existence," she sighed finally managing to sit up at the very least.
"Sit still. I'm going to go get you some help," Tokiro advised, taking flight once more.
"Get some Vicodin while you're out will you?" she sarcastically spoke after him, assessing the various unresponsive nerves on her body. This was gonna be fun.
