The pacific ocean was cold during the day most people used a wetsuit, at night it was even colder. Yet there was still a swimmer in the waves in the middle of the night nothing but a swimsuit on. Some, like a certain dove, would say it was a rather ridiculous idea to be swimming at this time of night but nothing else pressing was going on and exercise was always recommended for people who engage in high risk occupations. Of course most hero’s trained in a gym but most hero’s didn’t see the future.
It was just nice to be around the ocean after being in Africa for so many years, even though she had been in San Francisco for a year prior it was almost strange not to wake up to desert some days. The surf was calming at this time of night with just the lights of the city to guide her way to the beach, everything would have been calming other then the fuming dove floating a way’s behind her as Serenity made her way through the crashing waves of the surf.
Sorina had grumbled about making the swim from the tower to the beach in the middle of the night but had stopped when the blonde had stopped swimming and splashed the dove until she had stopped yattering on and finally let the clairvoyant swim in peace. She even got to get up to the beach without any troubles even locating her towel behind the lifeguard stand where she had hidden it earlier in the day. ”You predicted you wouldn’t be sleeping and hid your towel here.” The spirit was less then impressed with the entire situation.
Serenity didn’t grace the irritated huff with a comment just wrapping herself in her towel sitting on the abandoned lifeguard stand. It was just nice to listen to the waves instead of think about what had happened recently in her life. Her nightmarish visions brought back every fear she ever had night after night, sometimes bringing up what she had gone through but once she woke up again she could go right back to ignoring the problem altogether. Living her life like she hadn’t been through a life altering trauma was her own personal way of dealing with her problems, or rather not dealing at all. At least her scars were finally fading from her back that was something at least. If she hadn’t popped her stitches so many times it would have faded entirely but alas this life she led got in the way.
She glared at the dove who was still glaring at the back of Serenity's head, "Just say it you'll be grumpy later if you don't." It would be easier to deal with the dove now before she built up a head of steam.
The spirit glared at the medium, "You're going to burn out you realize, you can not keep not sleeping every night? And now you're swimming over a mile, for the exercise. Did this ever occur to you that this could be dangerous?" She may have for a moment forgotten that Serenity could see the future. She was getting more and more worried as the nightmares kept on despite the sleeping pills that she made sure Serenity took every night.
The blonde rolled her eyes, for most people the swim wouldn't have been the smartest move -as she was currently shivering from the cold- but as a clairvoyant she knew she could handle it. The dove might take a moment before she came back to her senses. "Sorina I'm fine let's just move on alright? Don't you want to go bother someone else?" She may know who was about to show up and having one ticked off dove yell in her ear was not something she really wanted right now.

The full moon was casting wisps of white over the calm waves that lapped near Mathews feet. It hung low in the sky appearing so close one could reach out and grab it. This of course, was not Mathews intention, as made evidence by a homemade telescope smothered against the zip-up sweater over his arm. The lights and sounds of the boardwalk and city had made him retreat further and further down the beach as to get away from the light pollution. As he continued making his way down the shore, the stars and moon grew brighter and more numerous as the cosmos itself came into new found clarity. It wasn't the brightest move to come closer to the tower; it was always good to keep a low profile before doing something like drug an entire city. Getting spotted or arrested would certainly put a damper on his plan, he definitely didn't need that kind of attention. Then again, Titans or no, this was still his favorite place to hang out, be it day or night. As he continued on his journey, he saw a lifeguard stand in the distance. Seeming like a perfect place to set up the tripod for his telescope, he ventured forth with his spontaneous decision. He, however made the journey in silence, accompanied only by the brisk air, the sounds of the gentle waves of the ocean, and his animal companion whom, unlike Sorina, wasn't very vocal. The ferret was curled up cozy and warm, happy as a particularly happy clam under Mathew's sweater. It wasn't until Mathew got close to the Lifeguard stand that he realized they weren't alone. Recognizing her at once, Mathew had to stop himself from calling out Serenity's name loudly; reminding himself that she, of course, knew he would be there. It would also be rude to demand she explain her absence, though he wasn't one to mind so much; perhaps she had to get away and do 'whatever it is that serenity does with herself' for a while. Probably fighting zombies, ghosts or draculas. *GASP* or GHOST DRACULAS. Mathew shivered slightly as his rampant imagination took hold, or perhaps it was due to the chilly breeze that had rolled through. He'd likely write it off as the latter. His mind wasn't able to wander for too long- right now he was thrilled to see Serenity again. "I hope I'm here on time!" Mathew called out to get her attention. He was clearly poking fun at her foresight capabilities. Of course he was on time, right where he was supposed appear as well, he'd wager. Serenity's skills had always seemed to be in competition with Mathews rampant unpredictability. Perhaps, Mathew considered, that's why she seemed to like him so much. Knowing how everything would end up could certainly become boring. Mathew began burrowing through his backpack, after setting the bulky homemade telescope down. He grabbed a thick throw blanket out and offered it to the likely cold seer. Now, Mathew knew better than to think she was some damsel in distress that he had to help out, but he couldn't in clear conscience leave her out in the cold (literally) after she had clearly just been swimming, while he sat there happy in his fuzzly sweater. He had intended to use the blanket to set his telescope upon to keep it from getting sandy, but finding the lifeguard stand made such foresight obsolete. "Wanna see something really cool?" Mathew inquired excitedly as he assembled his telescope and tripod. He was a bit surprised to have someone there to take pictures of the moon and cosmos, but he didn't seem to be too bothered by Serenity's disappearance. No, he seemed like he could have easily been talking to her yesterday. ~~~~~~~~ Words: 636 Notes: Mathew has so many hobbies. Music: The Dreamer

Sorina glared at the girl before her. It wasn't usual that the blonde tried to get her to be somewhere else, the only times she did was usually because she didn't want someone over her shoulder for what could possibly happen over the rest of this night. She had been left behind before and it seemed the clairvoyant wanted some time to herself right now. The only question was why would Serenity want her out of the...
"I hope I'm here on time!"
Oh. Mathew. Great.
Serenity swiped her hand through her still damp hair. The dove and Mathew had only managed a grudging acceptance of one another before she had rushed out of town. Well that wasn't necessarily true, Mathew always was pleasant about having the dove around even trying to say hello and such but Sorina had never approved of Mathew. It was probably because they had been running from the FBI together at one point, and the police. Not a great first impression for the slightly judgmental spirit. In the blondes mind if he wasn't supporting organized crime with his drug dealing that was a good thing.
"So this is why you want me gone? Mathew?"
Serenity nodded and pointed down the beach, "Five minutes that way, Mary she's a jumper might need a little guidance." If the dove could be doing anything but yell at her for her life choices for the next few hours that would be just fine with her. She didn't watch as the dove flew off annoyed that she didn't get any warning from Serenity about her nightly plans.
Serenity turned flipping her hair behind her back and smiled at Mathew after the dove flew off, "Your actually earlier then expected, I could have used another minute to ditch the dove." Joking was good. Joking was easy. Joking wan't talking about the reason she had run out of Jump so quickly. She lifted the blanket from Matt's hands and wrapped it around herself. While her towel was helpful this late at night the blanket was much warmer in the long run. She had made sure to keep her new scars hidden from Matt though, that was part of the life she was hiding from. At the tower she was that crazy blonde who screamed at night and who had been broken when she had been brought to the tower. Here she could pretend if only for the night that she was just fine.
"Wanna see something really cool?"
She walked up behind him where he was assembling the telescope. The telescope was well made but he had done much better work in the past that she had seen. Still it would do the job just fine. "We should be able to see Jupiter tonight." She wasn't exactly avoiding telling him why she had left. Maybe a little, but she would get to telling him eventually. "So how have you been keeping yourself." Or she could just get it out all at once. That would work too.

"Aha! Right you are!" Mathew excitedly exclaimed in reference to Jupiter as he finished attaching the scope to the telescope. He seemed to riffle through his bag absentmindedly as Serenity was talking, but then pulled out an eyepiece with a low magnification lens. He wondered if she had looked up planetary sightings in preparation, having known he would be going starseeing tonight. That was oddly incredible of her, as Mathew himself hadn't known that he was going to be out there until maybe an hour or so ago. As with most things, he had done it on a whim upon seeing the full moon that night. "So how have you been keeping yourself.""Oh well ya know, I've been, uh, Mathew'ing about." He would have given her a wink to go with his toothy grin, but he was preoccupied with looking through the scope, aiming it at the celestial object. She was better off not hearing about the shenanigans he had been getting into. As he was leaning over Sir Henry Wadswarth Longfellow the ferret poked his head out through the head hole in Mathews sweater. He then leaped down gracefully, stretching before rolling about in the sand excitedly adorably. "Oh I got a ferret. Hes a rescue."He then adjusted the eyepiece on the side of the makeshift newtonian reflector. Deciding instead to show her one of his favorites, he swiveled the telescope on its tripod towards orion. His smile grew wide, changing to a higher magnification lens. "Look... at that."The Great Orion Nebula. Mathew at one point had believed he had discovered it. Of course he hadn't- someone had discovered it long ago. That still made it his favorite, to have found something there he hadn't expected while looking at Orion. After all, it wasn't part of the official constellation. "That's where stars are born from giant hydrogen clouds in space- if you trace everyone all the way back thats what we all are. We are stardust, ya know." His eyes were wide with amazement witnessing the beauty of the universe, silently happy he had someone to share it with especially someone he cherished dearly.

"Oh well ya know, I've been, uh, Mathew'ing about."
Serenity tried her best not to scoff at his phrasing. That may have been the understatement of the year, although it was made her smile to hear him use his name as a verb to describe being a troublemaker. There were so many comments she could make but one thing kept coming to mind. After all these years Mathew was still the same. It was nice to come home and find that she could slot right back into her old life. She grinned at Sir Henry as he went leaping out onto the sand. It was nice to know she wasn't threatening enough to scare the ferret. Some things did change apparently.
"Oh I got a ferret. Hes a rescue."
Serenity glanced back up at Mathew, "Be very glad Henry doesn't give you lectures on your life choices." It was strange balancing her newfound compulsion to keep an eye on the future with Mathew's carefree attitude. She wished she could just forget what she had been through and be the old version of herself, the version that could just sit with someone and not keep a very close eye on the future. She was even picking out details about Sir Henry out of possible conversations that Mathew might have later. His future was much more difficult to read then most she would give him that. The amount of time he spent high was blocking most of his future and it troubled her to no end.
"Look... at that."
Still holding the blanket around herself she peered through the telescope to see a nebula. The swirls of reds and grays were beautiful as they formed into a brighter light. She had always loved astronomy but never found she had the time to enjoy the stars, often times she was running around playing the part of therapist to the spirits around the city. "Mathew it's beautiful." Times like this she wished she took more time for herself. She was always running around trying to make sure the future was as stable as possible or working with the ghosts of the city. Sorina called her a control freak but Serenity liked to think she was just finishing up with all her obligations.
"That's where stars are born from giant hydrogen clouds in space- if you trace everyone all the way back thats what we all are. We are stardust, ya know."
Serenity was grinning at Mathew's comment before he had started speaking. She had always loved how he viewed the world (at times when he wasn't high). It was a much more positive view of the world then she herself had and that was why she smiled back at him letting him get at his telescope again. She had missed his optimistic views on life. "I can honestly say I have never thought of the world quite that way," He painted such a beautiful picture of the world. One that she had not experienced herself in a long time. People did jump out of the shadows to get you and keeping track of such occurrences was not always so easy. People didn't all come from stardust. "I just wish people all thought that way. The world would be a much nicer place to be."
She leaned against Mathew's shoulder for heat, she may be huddled under a blanket but she was still rather cold. She was in no way using the contact as comfort. Nope not at all. Life had recently dealt her a rather bad hand and she was not about to fold just yet. "What other constellations are out there tonight?" She was not going to deal with what she had been through yet. She was a fan of denial. She was a psychology student so she knew exactly what she was doing but as long as she could keep putting one foot in front of the other every day she was ok with it.

"Mathew its beautiful""Right?" Mathew smirked, while most people were busy sticking their noses in their phones, there was a massive universe out there waiting to be explored and gawked at. Having a massive telescope and the patience for the study made Mathew feel like he was in on a large cosmic inside joke, seeing the bigger picture when most people had the attention span of a goldfish. To those who didn't know any better, Mathew may have been grouped in with such people, having a lack of short term memory, yet having a deep and meaningful perspective on the big picture. The lack of short term memory didn't seem like an impediment to Mathew, a man who with a touch of mania was living right in the present, devoid of anxiety or depression. He couldn't remember a time when he wasn't happy and he had his own philosophies to blame for that. All he really aspired to do now was share his vision with the world. "I can honestly say I have never thought of the world quite that way,"Most don't thought Mathew, unscrewing the focal lens as he thought of another place in the sky to focus on. "I just wish people all thought that way. The world would be a much nicer place to be."It was almost as if she knew what he was trying to pull off. The entire world had grown detached becoming myopic and self centered. Personal egos were to blame for that and nothing could cut down an ego like a psychedelic mystical experience. He certainly knew he'd be just another cog in the machine if it weren't for psychedelics. Now if only everybody could experience such things, if only once... It was notable and quite incredulous to find that Mathew hadn't concerned himself with Serenity's absence, simply being happy when she was there and happy when she wasn't. He did hope she had busied herself with the pursuit of happiness as he had, or at least with something of great importance to her. He knew enough about her as a person to put his money on the latter. As he swiveled the telescope around, having thought of something she might like, he felt something warm against his shoulder. Human touch, Mathew could almost cry at the simple gift of the universe. Of course he was very much still in love with Serenity. Then, he loved everybody, but what he felt for her was very different. It was something like... inspired. Somewhere between having your heart in your throat, manic dabbling on your lips, and courage running through your veins to be a better person; that was Serenity. It left him in a trance... a serene experience. *giggle* "Ooooooh this'll be better than some constellation! Prepare thine mind for some serious blowing!" Mathew said a wild twinkle in his eye. He aimed using the scope and adjusted the eyepiece accordingly. "Its like, god stuck glitter up his nose and sneezed"It was the Jewelbox Double cluster. More stars filled up this tiny space than one could feasibly count. So many stars in just a tiny spec in the sky, easily confused as merely one star. The universe was so immense and yet here people were, violently trying to control a tiny section of a tiny region of a tiny spec of dust floating about. That or speculating on some superstars fashion sense. How silly. Mathew giggled a bit at the thought.

"Ooooooh this'll be better than some constellation! Prepare thine mind for some serious blowing! Its like, god stuck glitter up his nose and sneezed."Serenity hid her laugh in Mathew's shoulder. It was nice to pretend for at least a moment that she was not the girl that got kicked out of Las Vegas and raced across seas to stop a madman. There were days she was proud to be the girl who who would do that for family, but there were days she just wanted to sit here with Mathew and not care about anything earth shattering. In some cases that was a rather literal take on some of her visions. It was amazing that Mathew even found the time to know so much about the stars. Most of the blonde's time was used up in graveyards, writing papers, or running around with hero's. She made sure that she didn't have much free time available in order to sit back and contemplate life, she knew the moment she did life would start becoming very real. She was avoiding that time either denying what she went through happened entirely or staying so busy that she didn't have time to worry. It was working so far. "Where do you find the time to stargaze?" She grinned back at him where she was looking through the lens. The cluster he found was very beautiful especially on a mostly cloudless night like this one. Serenity was trying her best not to mention what Mathew's plans were for tomorrow. Mostly because she could see the discussion going nowhere. There were about five people who could beat her in an argument and she was currently using his telescope. It wasn't that he would convince her to his point of view, the blonde was to stubborn for that, though conversation was bound to go in circles so she mostly left the topic alone. The seer saw life much different then most people, she saw the world in what may be's. There were so many different paths that everyone can follow for their own lives. Futures where heroes crossed the line into being overlords, where some of joker's schemes actually panned out and some even more. Each different event left so much up to each individual. It was often hard to see the direct future past a few weeks due to the many different choices that could be changed. Yes she could see the branches but a direct future was much harder to see as it depended on so many different factors. She barely knew how to put her views into words on the subject which made it a rather hard to describe facet of her life. It wasn't the only thing she wanted to share as well, not that she would volunteer such stories right away. Maybe in the future after Sorina had stopped bothering her about her sleeping patterns. Why the dove insisted she needed a babysitter was beyond her. Words: 495 Notes: Nope Music: You and I ~ ChessTagged: @mathew

"Where do you find the time to stargaze?"The question seemed odd and alien to Mathew. He seemed to absentmindedly tease Sir Henry with a length of string from his sweater as he tried to piece together an answer. The ferret seemed to enjoy this tremendously, rolling about in the sand and becoming filthy as it wrestled the thing. He knew what she meant, but he didn't have to find time, he had it, and for reasons he would certainly explain. "I don't really make plans ya know" Mathew explained with a grin as Henry finally caught the string and proceeded to try and eat it. He was far to manic to do anything at any particular time other what he wanted to be doing. "I live in the present one day at a time; best way there is. Therefore, nothing could possibly have conflicted with me coming out here on a whim."He knew she might not understand- she was always hours, days, or even weeks in the future; how could she imagine living without planning everything out? This wasn't to say Mathew didn't have many interests, he was a prodigy in his own sense, studying cosmology, physics, pharmacology, chemistry, biology, philosophy (both religious and political) just to name a few. He could work his way through a textbook in a matter of days. It was just that nothing had ever conflicted with those things. He had no job outside dealing and could hang out with friends whenever he wanted to. Anything he wanted was at the touch of his finger. In some sort of cosmic irony, he didn't want much. "That's probably why you find me so lovable! haha" Mathew seemed to perk up after a pensive moment "I have a life free of the anxiety that you face on a regular basis! Must be a breath of fresh air for you."His eyes slowly shifted upward as he seemed to find his mind had wandered off and moved to change the lens. It wasn't difficult to find the next stop on the cosmic tour, the swiveling came to an abrupt stop as Mathew had a better idea mid-action. "Next stop and by request- Jupiter! But can you find it?" He challenged. He knew precisely where it was, so far away and appearing so small that it was easily lost among the stars. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: about 400 Im guess Notes: yup. Henry’s cat like antics put a grin on her face, it just went to show how carefree people could be when they wanted to. Reni herself had never been truly free to do what she wanted. There had always been futures she saw, or the dead to console even at a young age. “I don't really make plans ya know. I live in the present one day at a time; best way there is. Therefore, nothing could possibly have conflicted with me coming out here on a whim.”Serenity understood the idea in theory, living moment to moment was something that she never could do since she was always planing for the future. She could see how people went through life this way since she tended to keep an eye on Matt’s future. She also studied different mindsets to better understand different schools of thought throughout her schooling. She didn’t want to be carefree per say, that was what got her captured in the first place, there were just times she saw the pro’s of such a whimsical lifestyle. ”I know it makes your future more of a challenge to keep an eye on.” While Matt was unpredictable it was also a nice constant in her life, he was always rather manic but it was comforting that he didn’t change. “That’s probably why you find me so lovable! haha. I have a life free of the anxiety that you face on a regular basis! Must be a breath of fresh air for you.”She felt a shiver go down her spine and tugged the blanket around herself tighter. Lovable was most definitely the word she would use to describe him. Somehow despite the years apart he still seemed to know what made her tick, despite not knowing what had been going on the last few years he still just understood her. ”It is, the tower can be rather crowded at times, and despite being dead Sorina seems to worry the most.” With the fact that she had arrived at the tower a bloody mess it was no wonder the people who had known her before were worried. Some of the newer Titans weren’t sure what to make of her either. “Next stop and by request- Jupiter! But can you find it?”She looked at the telescope skeptically. From what she had learned before she knew Jupiter would at least be rising in the eastern part of the sky, and used her abilities to help figure out where the planet was rising, ”Oh you can even see the moons tonight.” It was amazing that she could find the planets on her own, yes she was not exactly playing fair but it was still fun to do what she could. Staring at the heavens she could pretend that the problems she would be facing tomorrow were not her’s to be concerned with. At least they weren’t her problem until she got back into the tower. She moved to the side so Matt could see through the telescope. For now she would wait to spill what she had been up to. She would have to tell him eventually, she did know that at least, and she wanted to. That would have to wait for a later time right now she just wanted to forget. The seer crouched down to get a better look at Sir Henry reaching a hand out to see if the ferret would like her or not. She sometimes had a hard time telling if animals would like her or not. Some loved her and others sensed the aura of the dead around her and steered clear. ”What do you say Henry, friends?” He was a much different companion to the talking dove she lived with all the time. He actually required food and attention first off, secondly there was no snide remarks that came from Sir Henry. She didn't know if that was a good thing or a bad thing if she was being honest with herself. Words: 668 Notes: Info on Jupiter Music: Last CigaretteTagged: @mathew
