It was a nice day to be out walking. The sky was grey with clouds and blocked out the sun, but no one seemed to care. The streets were busy with cars and people were walking along minding their own business, except for the people who gathered around the teenage werepire and her new canine companion, Ginger, sitting at her feet.
Vivian had a guitar in her hand and wore a black shirt with the words "Bite Me" in silver letters printed across the front and a pair of black sunglasses to hide her unnatural multicolored eyes. She was playing and singing for money, like she always did, but now she had to get enough to buy food for Ginger.
There was food at Mathew's apartment, but it there wasn't anything either of them could eat. A small glass jar sat in front of Vivian with a piece of paper taped to the front with "Request $2" written in purple ink. The jar didn't have much in it only a few coins and three dollar bills. Vivian was in the middle of singing the song "Welcome to My Life" by Simple Plan when Ginger decided to add her own voice in.
Her howl brought out giggles from the little kids who had dragged their parents to the crowd. As Vivian, and Ginger, finished the song the crowd gave a small applause then the crowd slowly began to shrink as people left to go about their business. Only a few people were generous enough to drop spare change into the jar.
As the last few people left, Vivian swung the guitar onto her back and picked up the jar, reaching her hand in and pulling out the bills and coins. She sighed and shook her head, stuffing the bills into her back pocket and counted the change. She ended up with a total of four dollars and eighty-seven cents.
She dropped the coins into her pocket and looked over at Ginger, "You in the mood to have beef jerky again?" Ginger stared at her for a moment then gave a soft whine. "I didn't think so." She put the jar back in its place and wondered what she was going to do.
