Shade was perched in a tree in the park, stretched out between two ideal branches. It was night, the canopy of stars encircling her in a tapestry of silver light across a navy canvas. She felt like a young child, peering through a blanket-covered fort through tattered holes into a world beyond what her eyes could see. It was humbling; for she really felt like a child once again, peering through the holes in her fort. Only this time, she didn't know what lay beyond the sheltered walls.
Shade directed her somber gaze at a small path winding through tangles of thick grass. Someone approached, and she melted back into the shadows of the tree branches. It was dark, not a single ray of sunlight able to crawl over the horizon and back into the world. The Earth was cast in darkness, which was just the way Shade liked it. She sometimes wondered if she was a depressing person, but each time she thought about it she simply decided that she was just a person who wanted to understand the way that the world worked. And for that, one needed silence.

Vivian slowly trotted through the park, her black fur bristling in the wind and her claws tapping against the pavement. She loved walking around at night in her wolf form, it was refreshing for her. She lifted her muzzle to the sky and took a deep breath, enjoying the sweet smell of the trees and...... of someone else. She looked around, her eyes darting from side to side. She sniffed the air again and found the slight scent of someone, but she couldn't see anyone. She slowly followed the scent to a tree. She looked up and couldn't see anyone there, but she could feel there presence. She stared at the bare branches for a moment then sat down under the tree.
