She grinned it was nice actually have someone who knew enough to ask who Sorina had been not just what snarky thing she said last. It was a huge portion of her life that very few people could comprehend let alone carry on a conversation about, "She was a nurse in the civil war, died in Gettysburg." She would let him find out the story of the nurse who helped save injured soldiers by taking up arms on his own. They knew just about everything about his family just from the very chatty spiritual grapevine, it was only fair to give him enough information to figure it out for himself. She rolled her eyes at his words on the cigarettes, "It's not stealing it's saving me from smelling them later. I'm not a fan of the smell so I'm saving myself." Her voice took on a flirty tone just for a moment as she spoke. Yes he had his tragic past which some spirits never stopped talking about and he was still alive and helping out those who needed it. It would was very similar to her own story but she still kept a long list of friends around her. The difference between her friends and Stephen's, her friends fought crime on a daily basis and could take care of themselves. Sorina glanced between the two blondes, oh lovely they were flirting, she was not going to have a fun night. It wouldn't have been quite so awkward for the dove if Stephen couldn't see her as well. When only one party could see Sorina she was able to just make her comments and Serenity could choose to act on them or keep moving. This was another matter, yes she knew the girl she had watched grow up did have a life of her own to live she still wasn't ready to be away from her for so long. The last time they hadn't been able to talk with each other Serenity was being tortured and had almost stopped fighting. She wasn't about to let the girl out of her sight quite yet. Serenity flipped her hair over her shoulder, "There's a twenty-four hour dinner around the corner, and in no future are you getting these cigarettes back. Although your attempts are amusing me." She let a knowing smirk slip across her face. "Don't forget I can see your moves before you make them." Sometimes it was easy to forget that the medium could read future actions right out of people's futures. People tended to underestimate the blonde just for her hair color. Well, they did once. Well, Constantine's comments about Sorina seemed to make Serenity happy. The smile told him that it wasn't often someone could see, or understand, her companion. By that time, he had his coat on, so he returned with a controlled smile and curt nod. With the coat, he was a detective, and he couldn't show any weakness through that exterior. Hopefully Serenity could understand that, but he was showing more emotion around her than he usually did. Constantine didn't take the time to notice, of course, since self reflection was biased. Why would he talk about his emotions with himself? That's silly! "Oh," Constantine put on a cocky smirk and raised an eyebrow , "of course you'd be concerned about your own well being, I see where I rate." Serenity's tone intertwined with his own snide comments, so at best he sounded like he was flirting with sarcasm. At worse he'd sound like he was insulting her. It was a curse of his outward demeanor and his own self-imposed isolation. No friends, or few, could do that to a person. He shook his head and shrugged as he started walking ahead of Serenity, "Well, let's go out and eat then! At least I have that, don't I?"Constantine looked at Sorina and grinned maniacally, "I suppose you're coming to, even if I had any objections." Stepping next to Serenity, specifically on her left side, he held his arm out in case she had the funny urge to grab it and walk with him. He wasn't sure exactly why he did it, but it was one of those things men are supposed to do for women. Something about escorting and swords being on the left side of one's body or something like that. "Yeah," Constantine finally replied to her statement about knowing his moves, "but you don't know which decision I make until I actually do. Wanna make it a date?"WC: 318 Music: www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKxZY0DIxIk Tagged: @reni

Sarcasm, Serenity's bread and butter. She could snark back and forth for hours and still be able to come back with another witty remark. She and the dove managed to do this for hours when there was nothing either of the two had to accomplish that day. So sarcastic flirting was just up her alley, and heck a not bad looking supernatural hero, it wasn't the worst idea in the world to strike up a friendship. "Yes my own health comes first then comes that coat, it's a sin to have such a caustic smell attached to such a beauty." Sorina fluttered her wings at the younger blonde, "Why Serenity he is a smart one." Serenity laughed at her friends comment, yes she had seen it coming but it was still amusing. Their senses of humor had developed together over the years leaving a dry sarcastic mix in the wake of twenty years together. The dove fluttered her feathers in surprise. She knew the significance of standing on the left side rather then the right. Back when she had been alive some soldiers had still carried swords, not to use of course but as a show of status. It surprised her even more when Serenity wrapped her arm through his. She wasn't usually for the feminine junk that had been expected of women back when she had been alive. Even so it was nice to see her blonde relax. Serenity herself was enjoying the rather simple experience of interacting with someone who didn't have a preconceived notion of who she was. Other then the deductions that he was making in his head of course. "Well then it looks like I'll have to be prepared for all eventualities won't I." The banter back and forth was almost like a dance for the seer. On one hand she was picking information out of the future while her dance partner was deducting to his hearts content. "If this is a date, your buying." She gave him a challenging smile. It wasn't much of a challenge as she would still pay for the very inexpensive meal if she had to. It wasn't like her cash-flow was limited to a single profession. Gambling was rather universal, and the number of crime bosses in the city to swindle money out of never seemed to dwindle. Then again if she did start making a dent in them she could always pop over to gotham for a day. Sorina floated back away from the two, yes she was glad her seer was having fun but she wan't exactly intent on listening to every word. She could manage to keep her distance and still keep the two of them in sight. Words: 458 Notes: Nope Music: I Will Always Return Tagged: stephenjconstantine

Benign as Serenity's joke was, Constantine really liked his coat. It was comfortable, warm, and on occasion it provided enough protection from the supernatural elements wanting to harm him. Couple that with the "look" of the gritty, beaten detective from the 1940s or 1980s and Constantine was cool. In fact, he was so smooth and cool, that he took the sarcasm and deflected it, "Alas, this threadbare beauty may be coated with magic Teflon, or not. Who would know if my dad did that?" He coughed a little from the cold and looked up as they walked.
Walking at a comfortable pace was easy, and Constantine felt strangely at ease with this new-found friend and companion. Though, it wasn't a love at first sight scenario, since his comment was just out of the blue and a bit of his dark humor, she'd accepted it and it seemed she welcomed it. Well, he thought, if something about me make her happy... They walked down the sidewalk, arm in arm and footsteps echoing between the buildings, but Constantine felt no fear of the dark corners and alleyways. He figured Serenity didn't either, since she lived in that darkness. No matter how bad his childhood was, with all his friends getting murdered, he couldn't imagine how hard Serenity could have had it if no one understood her. Being "different" where everyone was "normal" could really screw up someone. It was almost pity that filled his heart, but he wasn't being her friend because of that.
Serenity's comment made him smirk. "You could expect nothing," Constantine suggested in a sad, sarcastic tone, "you won't be disappointed then." He slyly tried to snatch the cigarettes out of her pocket, but was thwarted again. "Do I look like I'm made of money?" He was sparring again with sarcasm. Dinner would be paid for, and he would do the paying. As a teenager, half-adult, and coming from the Constantine family, he wasn't monied, but he would have enough for this meal, her look told him that. Another funny thought crossed his mind, She's going to make sure we order just enough food to empty my wallet entirely.
Oh, and Sorina is watching us. Stephen gulped, Please don't poke my eyes out...

Serenity grinned up at him from her place at his arm, he thought he was being all sneaky but he should have learned by now outsmarting a seer was not that easy. She had the cigarettes in her left front pocket, so she slipped her hand back to grab them only a few moments before he made a grab for them himself. "With that big brain of yours, I don't see a future in that." She tapped the side of his head with the box before sliding them back in her right back pocket, slightly more difficult for him to grab while she was still holding his arm. The seer smirked up at Constantine, "Well you seem to have enough money to feed a cigarette addiction, you can take the girl who finished your job for you." She pushed open the door to the twenty-four hour diner after dropping the cigarettes in the rather full looking trashcan by the door, right in a pile of maple syrup, "Now I won't stop you from taking them back just if you were interested."[/font] She smirked right at him and detangled herself from his arm to go sit down at one of the open booths. The diner was very quaint with it's barstools but at this time of it was empty enough that they could snag any of the tables around the windows. She collapsed in a seat and flagged down a waitress, "Could I get a cup of coffee black?" She may or may not want to just stay up for the rest of the night now. This had been happening every night she'd try to go to sleep even with the medication that Athena had guilted her into taking and she would still wake up after four hours of restless sleep. Sure she was learning to cope with the dreams of her own death and the lack of sleep but it had been a few weeks now of running on coffee and sheer stubbornness, but that was not what she came to talk about. She had come to talk about the fact that he was interested in starting a supernatural team of hero's. He would need some serious cash-flow to get an operation like that off the ground. It just so happened that she was still very wealthy after funding a rebellion. She'd wait to bring it up after she got caffein in her system though, this was a conversation she wanted to be at her best for. "Damn it," Constantine cursed as the cigarettes hit the syrup, but his eyes wandered around the interior of the diner with curiosity, "oh." Surprisingly, he seemed to fit in with his attire, and it reminded him of a scene from a movie. A guy in a trench coat is led to a diner by a mysterious woman, who then makes a deal with him. Except, that wouldn't happen, and the woman wasn't trying to sell drugs or make him a deal with the devil. Constantine sighed and followed Serenity through the all-too familiar setting of the diner, then he took a seat across from her. He decided to counter her order, "Coffee -- decaf, please?"
In the light, he'd noticed the bags under Serenity's eyes, the subtle shake in her graceful motions, and the lingering bloodshot creeping at the edge of her opalescent orbs. She was sleep deprived, he surmised, and he wasn't about to let that happen tonight. The girl was troubled by something, and he set out to find out what without jumping to conclusions. Constantine narrowed his eyes to capture any other details in the light, but mostly his scrutiny returned a result of, "She's pretty, go for it, SHA LA LA LA LA LA MY OH MY KISS DE GIRL" which greatly annoyed him. It wasn't that he wasn't observing, it's that he'd run out of things to observe externally. His eyes ran up from her slender fingers, up her pale skin, and then stared her in the eyes. "Before we talk about what you think I want to talk about," He paused and held his hand out, palm up, "promise me you won't use your powers to see what I'm going to say to form a rebuttal, or if you have ignore it."
"I know I just met you," Constantine began, his voice barely above a whisper, "but what's bothering you? You haven't been sleeping? I suppose I can understand having a nightmare or seeing a bad future, but you're having the same one, over and over again aren't you? It's you dying, and you don't know why or what choices that lead to it." He leaned back from the table and looked out the window, his eyes scanned the darkness for something, anything to avoid what he was going to say. Sighing, he looked back across the table, "I don't know what you went through, what pain set it off... but I have a nightmare that keeps me up at night too. Hell, maybe you've listened to me once already and this is just repeating it. I see people, my few friends and family, and I see them dying in front of me. No matter how fast I run or if I reach out, I am always kept the same distance from them. Then, it's my turn, and I start to feel nothing. Every night I have that dream, but I sleep the whole night. Because, no matter how real it seems, and how afraid I am. It's only a dream."
Taking a breath, he leaned back over the table and held his hand out for her. Oh God this is going to sound so weird... "Will you sleep tonight? I'll even provide you with someone to cuddle with." He winked, trying to raise the mood.

Serenity raised an eyebrow at his request, she could just sit down and say, 'of course I won't read the future.' That was never going to happen so soon after recent events. A few months ago, she may have acquiesced to his request, now she was going to look at him like he had two heads growing out of his shoulders. No, she now kept a rather anal view on the future, she wasn't about to be blindsided again. She listened to his speech twice, once in the future and once while he was speaking it. Yes she had known about his past. It was common knowledge in the spiritual community that the Constantine's had not had a very comfortable life. They fought with demons and the demons lo and behold fought back. Serenity hadn't been much of a player back when it had occurred though, that and she was still tied up in Africa with Vandal Savage. But now he wanted to guess at her problems, and yes he was a detective and that got him through the door but did he really want to know the downside of having visions of the future. She finally let him finish and kept her eyes on her coffee that had finally been brought by, "Last week I arrived in Jump City after escaping being tortured by Vandal Savages men." Her hands curled around the mug as she lifted it up to her lips to take a drink and set it back on it's saucer. She had just decided to tell him before he figured it out all on his own "The last seven nights I have had dreams of my own death, every time their different." She took another sip finishing half of her cup. "But the thing that clairvoyants don't tell you is that while your subconscious has control your mind seeks out all the worst possible scenarios it can think of. Did you know right at this moment Vandal Savage the immortal man himself is on his way to America because the Justice League didn't catch him in Bialya? Well I did, and every night he comes up with yet another inventive way to kill me that I see in my dreams every one of my deaths is a possible future." Her cup of coffee was now empty and she was leveling a glare at him. "Still want to claim that the dreams are all in my head? That I can just pretend they aren't real, the dreams change as he thinks of new ideas as well and let me tell you the man is very inventive after a few thousand years."Hopefully after that he would finally drop the subject for the future, she didn't want to have to see him looking into her many names in the future or into who the bloodied broken blonde was that had been taken into the tower a week ago. She wanted it behind her as most of the Titans were very happy to let it go especially after meeting her and seeing she could dredge up their entire past and future with very little effort. it tended to make people less prone to asking her questions about her past. "Now we can discuss what you came here to discuss or you can pry into my past some more, but I wouldn't recommend that as I can dredge up much more of your past then you can by simply seeing that I haven't slept." She may have been slightly bitter and not willing to chat about something that only happened a week and a half ago. She was not really feeling up to it, she was tired and it was catching up to her. Before she spoke, Constantine's eyes grew hazy and watched as not a note of surprise showed on Serenity's face. She had looked, and she wasn't amused. Any emotions there were half a powerful as they should have been. Of course, he wasn't mad, but it wasn't comforting to know that she'd done that. He shook his head and listened, and he felt hurt because he'd hurt her. Constantine would remember it later, and hopefully she wasn't peeking at how he was going to make up for it in the future.
"No, I can't know that." Constantine's hand flew across the table and took the cup out of her hands, setting it on the table gently, and replacing it with his own, warm touch. His voice was barely above a whisper, "I can't know how you feel. I'm sorry for bringing it up. If you ever want to talk, we can. But we'll do that later." Gently, he squeezed her hand and then retracted, replacing his hands with his cup of coffee and a smile. Oh, maybe he was trying a little bit to be charming, but who would know that?
As Serenity scolded him, or practically threatened him, Constantine calmly brought his hands folded in front of his face. His thumb rested between his eyebrows and mocked praying. In truth, he was thinking about the pains Serenity suffered, and how recent the horrors were. He knew that they'd just get worse as time went on. A part of him wfondered how far Serenity looked into the future. Maybe she was flirting, or pretending to care, because it was the only future where she lived. Self-preservation didn't seem like her, but she was scared. Besides, I can't save anyone, Stephen's doubts arose, can I?
Another smirk crossed Constantine's face as his hands ran through his hair and he laughed, "Well, I thought we were on a date Serenity, but I guess if you want to talk about forming a team of supernaturally adept individuals to take care of those things that keep people awake at night, and the reason that grown men sleep with their lights on." Clearing his throat, he went on, "We'll have to talk to the leader of the Titans or the Justice League, won't we? Alas," his tone grew sarcastic, "my eloquence is not great, nor am I as charming as the young and beautiful Serenity Swanson. Oh, and that last part? That wasn't sarcasm."

Sorina may or may not have been watching the exchange from right outside the window. That was her new - rule always in eye contact - especially around people she didn't know. Even if her blonde seemed to think they would be close in the future. It even looked like she was allowing him to comfort her, well comfort her while she still glared at him but it was better then anyone else had managed so far. Ok That looked like Serenity was now threatening him, so not quite so evolved. She was constantly biting the hand that fed her, why so many powered individuals were prideful she would never know. That was a good idea for a paper actually she would have to mention it to Serenity later. . . . Serenity rolled her eyes at Constantine's date comment but kept listening despite the fact she knew what he was going to say. She agreed it was a good idea to start a team of people that could deal with the magic side of this town that tended to be forgotten by the Titans and Young Justice. When it came to super villains robbing a bank they were all over that but stuff like that little girl tonight Serenity was used to dealing with on her own and it would be nice to have a team to help take care of situations like that. The medium took a sip of the coffee in front of her and turned her now guarded look from the magician in front of her to give the coffee in her hands a dirty look. She flagged down a waitress just as she was walking by, "Refill of regular please, on second thought could you just leave the pot, and he'd like pancakes and bacon." Serenity smiled as she pushed Stephen's cup back towards him, he may be attempting to get her to sleep but that wasn't going to work tonight, or was it morning now there were no nearby clocks for her to check to make sure. She turned her gaze back to what seemed to be a rather silver tonged individual, "You give yourself to little credit, you can be charming when you want to be." Serenity herself was charming when she wanted true but she was often rather impatient when dealing with large groups of people. Her friends were easy to chat with but she usually ended up with the job of dealing with the innocent bystanders. She wasn't a fan. "Well if you'd like to discuss this with Athena then coming to the Halloween party would be not only fun but a good time to corner her. Catching her in a good mood for something like this would be a good idea. You can consider it a second date if you'd like, oh and it's a costume party." She sipped her now caffeinated coffee leaving the decaffeinated sludge on the other side of the table. "You will probably also want help funding this little endeavor correct?" Yes quite a lot of her money was dependent on gambling that mob bosses were dumb enough to fall for but her small fortune she had amassed to fund a rebellion had been quietly gaining money in the last year. She hadn't needed quite as much money going to school as she had needed while dethroning Savage. Words: 557 Notes: If it's a bad post I blame sleepiness Tagged: stephenjconstantine

As Serenity glared and returned his coffee, Constantine could figure out that she thought he intentionally wanted to put her asleep. It was only half true. The other truth was that he wanted to sleep tonight. Without missing a beat, he lifted the cup to his lips and started sucking the bitter mud down. In all honesty, if he wanted to, he could probably find some magic that would put her to sleep. That was one thing he didn't like about magic: power. It was power that he could use on people for all kinds of good and evil, but he chose to use it sparingly. In fact, he could probably learn a thing or two about the future from his mother, but he never did.
Oh, and she thought that he was being silly about the date, which was originally a sarcastic half desire that led them here and suddenly made him very nervous. Looking up at the waitress before she left, Constantine asked, "Would you bring some waffles for the lady, please." If she didn't eat them, he would. He heard that the Titans had a thing for waffles.
As he spoke, he felt that someone was watching from afar. That's probably Sorina, he thought, I wonder how she feels about all of this. It was luck, or maybe Serenity planned it, that Constantine's coffee wasn't in his mouth when she said he was charming. It would've been spit out. Instead, his embarrassment or shyness showed in the color of scarlet his face turned. He felt his cheeks heating up and he tried to reverse the situation, "F-flattery will get you nowhere, even if it's coming from the most gorgeous women I've ever met." Take that!
It was almost like Serenity knew how to push Constantine's buttons, and she probably did. "Another date?" He grinned behind his coffee cup, "Should we match, if it's a date, and we're dating, and it's at a costume party? You'll have to help me corner her, I'm not sure who I'm supposed to talk to about this." His cup was empty, so he refilled it with the caffeinated sludge as he spoke, "She's the green one, right? I thought that's who led the Titans." Money was always an issue, no matter what the endeavor. His father was always poor, while his mother was made of money. "What we need," he pondered what would be the most appropriate but cheap building, "is an old mansion. We don't need any of that high tech stuff."
If he had a cigarette, he would've put it in his mouth and tried to light it, "Isn't that right?"
